Why Thailand
The World's Most Beloved Wedding Destination
Every year, thousands of international couples choose Thailand for their wedding. Here's why.
Stunning Venues
Powder-white beaches in Phuket and Krabi, misty mountain temples in Chiang Mai, luxury resorts in Koh Samui — Thailand offers an unforgettable backdrop for every style of wedding.
Rich Traditions
A Thai wedding is a deeply meaningful ceremony. From the Khan Maak procession to the sacred water-pouring blessing, your celebration connects you to centuries of cultural beauty.
Exceptional Value
A destination wedding in Thailand costs 40–60% less than a comparable wedding in the US, Europe, or Australia — without compromising on quality, food, or experience.
Easy for Guests
Thailand's international airports serve direct flights from every major city. Visa-free entry for 60+ countries. Accommodation ranges from $20/night to world-class resorts.
Marriage Equality
Thailand made history in 2025 as the first Southeast Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage. All couples, regardless of gender, have equal rights under Thai law.
Warm Hospitality
Thailand is known as the Land of Smiles for a reason. From your wedding coordinator to the venue staff and local monks, you'll be welcomed with genuine warmth and care.
Legal Guide
Getting Married Legally in Thailand
Thai law is welcoming to international couples. Here's what you need to know to make your marriage official.
Check Your Eligibility
Both partners must be at least 17 years old and not currently married. If either partner has been divorced, bring the official divorce certificate (translated to Thai).
Prepare Your Documents
You need valid passports plus an Affidavit of Freedom to Marry from your home embassy in Thailand. This statement confirms you're legally free to marry and must be translated and notarized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Translation & Legalization
All non-Thai documents must be translated into Thai by a certified translator, then stamped by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). This process takes 1–2 business days.
Register at the District Office
With your documents ready, you and your partner visit the local Amphur (district office) with two Thai witnesses. The registrar enters your marriage into the civil register. The entire process takes about 30 minutes.
Receive Your Certificate
You'll receive a Thai marriage certificate (Kor Ror 3) on the spot. For international recognition, get it translated and apostilled at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before returning home.
Celebrate!
With the legal formalities complete, you're free to celebrate with the traditional ceremony of your choice — or skip straight to the reception. Your marriage is valid under Thai law and recognized internationally.
Thai Wedding Traditions
A Timeless Ceremony
A traditional Thai wedding blends sacred Buddhist rituals with joyful celebration. Here's what to expect on your special day.
Morning Blessing พิธีทำบุญ
The day begins with monks chanting blessings at the venue. The couple offers food to the monks, receiving merit and blessings for a prosperous marriage. This sacred ceremony sets the spiritual tone for the day.
Khan Maak Procession ขบวนขันหมาก
A joyful parade led by the groom's family, carrying golden trays of offerings — betel nuts, fruits, fabrics, and rings — to the bride's home. Music, dancing, and laughter accompany the procession as guests celebrate.
Gate Ceremony ประตูเงินประตูทอง
The groom must pass through symbolic gates of gold and silver, guarded by the bride's bridesmaids. He answers questions, proves his worth, and pays a playful "ransom" before reaching his bride.
Water Pouring Blessing พิธีรดน้ำสังข์
The heart of the ceremony. The couple sits side by side with hands clasped in a wai. Elders and guests pour sacred water over their hands using a conch shell, blessing their union with prosperity, happiness, and fertility.
Ring Exchange & Vows สวมแหวนหมั้น
The couple exchanges rings and makes their vows, often blending traditional Thai elements with personal promises. A senior elder or monk officiates the union, tying white sacred threads (sai sin) around the couple's wrists.
Reception & Feast เลี้ยงฉลอง
A grand banquet featuring traditional Thai cuisine, live music, and dancing. The newlyweds make their rounds to greet guests, cut the cake, and celebrate into the night. A joyful conclusion to an unforgettable day.

FAQ
Common Questions About Getting Married in Thailand
We recommend arriving 7–10 days before your wedding date. This gives enough time to submit documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for translation/legalization (1–2 business days) and complete the registration at the Amphur. After the ceremony, you're free to enjoy your honeymoon!
Yes — Thai marriage certificates are recognized internationally under the Hague Apostille Convention. After registration, you can obtain an apostille from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which makes your marriage valid in all 120+ member countries. For non-member countries, consular legalization is available.
Not at all. English is widely spoken at the Amphur offices that handle foreign marriages, and we provide a translator to accompany you for the legal registration. Your wedding coordinator speaks fluent English and Thai throughout the planning process.
Absolutely. Many couples choose to have a beautiful symbolic Thai ceremony with monks, water pouring, and all the traditions — then handle the legal registration separately at the Amphur. You can even do the registration on a different day if that's more convenient.
The cool season (November–February) is ideal — lower humidity, minimal rain, and pleasant temperatures (25–32°C / 77–90°F). March–May is the hot season (great for poolside receptions). June–October is the rainy season but offers lower prices and fewer crowds. Each season has its charm!
Thailand made history by passing the Marriage Equality Act, which took effect in early 2025. Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia and the third in Asia (after Taiwan and Nepal) to legalize same-sex marriage. All legal rights, benefits, and procedures apply equally to same-sex and opposite-sex couples.
You need: (1) Valid passports, (2) An Affidavit of Freedom to Marry from your embassy in Thailand (some embassies issue it same-day, others take 3–5 days), (3) If previously married, the original divorce certificate or death certificate (translated to Thai), (4) If you changed your name, proof of name change. We'll guide you through the exact requirements for your specific nationality.
